Reviews

From the People Who Attended

MK

Margaret K.

Bangkok, retired teacher

"I had a carrier bag of pension letters going back twelve years, including papers from the UK and from Thailand. I had absolutely no idea what most of them were. After the document session, everything was labelled and in order. The person who helped me also explained, in simple terms, what each section of a statement represents — without telling me what to do about any of it, which was actually what I needed."

"The workshop was informative and unhurried. I went in thinking I understood how provident funds worked, and it turned out there were some basic points I had simply misread on my statements over the years. The handouts are something I've referred back to a few times since. I would have liked a longer Q&A section, but overall it was time well spent."

"What I found most useful about the Records Navigation Package was the timeline we built together. I now have a single document that shows my employment and pension history in a format I can actually hand to an official or an advisor. It saved me having to re-explain years of background every time I contact someone."

Nanthawan J.

Chatuchak, government retiree

"Very patient. I am 68 and not especially comfortable with computers, but they were flexible about using a paper folder system instead of a digital one. Everything was done at my pace. The facilitator was clear about the fact that she wasn't advising me — just explaining — which actually made me feel more comfortable asking questions."

Silom, finance professional

"I attended the workshop mainly to understand the Thai retirement system better, since my work history is split between three countries. The session gave me a solid framework. I do wish there had been more time on international document formats specifically, but the handout list of official bodies was genuinely useful — I hadn't known where to look before."

Phra Nakhon, long-term expat

"I had been avoiding a pile of pension correspondence for about three years — I honestly didn't know where to start. The document session lasted about two hours and by the end I had everything categorised and labelled. They also noted two items where I'd need to contact specific offices myself, and explained exactly who those offices were. That kind of signposting was what I'd needed."

Three Participant Journeys

These accounts describe how participants arrived, what sessions they attended, and what changed as a result. Names have been changed.

"I found three statements I didn't know I had"

Retirement Document Organisation — 1 session

Challenge

A participant in her early sixties arrived with a large envelope of mixed correspondence spanning 15 years, accumulated after working in two countries. She had never sorted any of it and didn't know what proportion related to active accounts versus closed ones.

What We Did

During a 2.5-hour session, all documents were laid out, sorted by type and year, and labelled. Three documents turned out to be statements from a pension she had forgotten registering with. These were placed in a separate marked folder with a note on which body to contact.

Outcome

She left with a fully labelled two-section folder, a general summary sheet explaining each document category, and a clear list of three bodies to contact on her own. She described the experience as "like clearing a mental backlog."

"I finally understood what 'vesting period' meant on my statement"

Pension Systems Education Workshop — group session

Challenge

A group of six colleagues from the same organisation attended a workshop together. Several had received their annual provident fund statements and were confused by terms like "employer portion," "employee portion," and the conditions described in the vesting section.

What We Did

The workshop covered common Thai provident fund statement formats in the first half, using anonymised sample layouts. Key terms were defined and explained. The second half covered where to find authoritative information and how to identify the relevant body for their fund type.

Outcome

All six participants completed the post-session feedback form. Five rated it 5 stars; one gave 4, noting a desire for more time on international schemes. Most described the terminology handout as the most immediately useful take-home item.

"I brought a folder to my appointment with the SSO and it actually helped"

Records Navigation Support Package — 4 sessions

Challenge

A participant in his late fifties had worked in both the public and private sectors and held documents from Thailand, Australia, and the UK. He had an upcoming appointment with a government office but no clear picture of which documents to bring or what his history looked like.

What We Did

Over four sessions across three weeks, we completed a full document sort, built a chronological employment and pension history timeline, identified gaps, and prepared a clear checklist of official contacts for each gap. All materials were presented in a format he could hand to an official or advisor directly.

Outcome

He attended his government appointment with a prepared folder and timeline, and reported that the meeting went "far more efficiently" than expected. He sent a follow-up email two days later noting that the appointment had answered several questions he had been carrying for years.
